White Diamonds
White or colourless diamonds are among the most common gemstones analyzed by GSL. Due to their popularity and high volume, we offer 3 different services for the analysis of white diamonds.
Every white diamond that passes through GSL is weighed, measured and then tested for ultraviolet fluorescence. The stone is then tested for Type to see whether there is a potential for being synthetic (man-made/laboratory grown) or having been treated. Once a stone is confirmed as being natural and untreated, it's dimensions and cut specifications are analyzed in further detail by the use of Sarine technology, to determine the stones final cut grade.
The stone is then assessed for colour using GSL's master stones, and is then viewed under magnification to determine the final clarity grade.

Verbal
A GSL "Verbal" assessment can be requested for white diamonds under 1.00ct. Verbal assessments provide the full Carat, Colour, Clarity and Cut grades that you would find on a full certificate, however they are not considered a final report. The information about the diamond is stored in GSL's database and is available if a full report is required at a later date. A client can reference a Verbal Number to GSL at a later date in order for a full Diamond Grading Report to be printed for the stone. Verbal assessments are therefore tailored to Diamond Dealers and Wholesalers, who manage a high volume of stones at any given time. A GSL Verbal provides the stone with a labelled brifka (a paper packet used for diamonds, folded in a special way so that the diamond cannot fall out) and a labelled Verbal Card, both of which provide a summary of the the full specifications of the stone. This is not a Diamond Grading Report. Once a full Diamond Grading Report is generated it is kept in the GSL Diamond Grading Reports Register for future reference. Full Grading Reports and Diamond Grading Summaries generated after January 2017 are scanned and uploaded to the Report Check section of the GSL website for reference and verification. |
Diamond Grading Summary
A GSL Diamond Grading Summary can be provided for white diamonds that are under 1ct in weight. The GSL Diamond Grading Summary is considered a complete report, and provides a full outline of all the specifications of the stone. Diamond Grading Summaries do not, however, contain inclusion maps (see Diamond Grading Report). Diamond Grading Summaries and Diamond Grading Reports are entered into the GSL Diamond Grading Reports Register for future reference and can be verified by visiting the Report Check section of the GSL Website. As an added service the diamond can be laser inscribed with the laboratory report number to guarantee its identity. |
Diamond Grading Report
GSL Diamond Grading Reports are provided for white diamonds of any size, but are predominantly produced for stones over 1ct in weight. Diamond Grading Report's differ from Diamond Grading Summaries in that they contain a detailed Inclusion Map. This map shows the locations of any external or internal features of the diamond, and can be used to accurately identify a stone at a later date.
