Laser Inscription
GSL offers an optional service of laser inscribing a diamond with it's corresponding Diamond Grading Report number as an added identification and security layer for the diamond described in the report.
A very fine laser beam is used to etch a microscopic inscription on the girdle of any diamond larger than 4mm in diameter. The laser beam is precisely focused at the girdle and does not damage the diamond. Inscription is usually done at the widest section of the girdle and care is taken to keep the laser beam away from any inclusions in the stone. Laser inscription does not change the Colour or Clarity grade of a diamond. Laser inscriptions are permanent, but can be removed by a professional diamond cutter.
Most commonly laser inscription is used to identify a diamond in relation to its Diamond Grading Report number. However, it is possible to inscribe whatever you like on the girdle of the diamond, with the inscription options being limited only by the thickness of the girdle and the size of the diamond. Personal romantic messages, names of loved ones, special dates or symbols and logos are also popular.
The size of the message is governed by the thickness of the girdle of the diamond and can be read only under magnification.
